20 years of resilience: ODM plans mega celebrations in Mombasa

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced a three-day festival in Mombasa to mark its 20th anniversary.

The Raila Odinga-led party, in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, said it will be celebrating two decades of what it calls “resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to democracy.”

The party has also invited its members, supporters, and all Kenyans to the anniversary celebrations.

“The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) marks two decades of resilience, sacrifice, and unyielding commitment to democracy, justice, and the people of Kenya. As the Party that has stood at the forefront of defending constitutionalism and people’s rights, we take pride in inviting our members, supporters, and all Kenyans to our 20th anniversary celebrations,” the statement read in part.

Four-team football tournament

The celebrations, set for October 10–12, 2025, will feature a Youth Summit, a Women’s Convention, a vibrant youth concert, and a thrilling four-team football tournament involving AFC Leopards, Bandari FC, Gor Mahia, and Shabana FC.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the milestone would not only honour the party’s struggles and victories but also reaffirm its pledge to remain a defender of justice and democracy in Kenya.

“The celebrations will run from October 10th to 12th, 2025, in the historic city of Mombasa. This milestone is not only a commemoration of ODM’s journey but also a reflection on the struggles, victories, and lessons that continue to shape our vision for a just, united, and prosperous Kenya,” Sifuna stated.

“The three-day festivities will feature: A Youth Summit, bringing together young leaders and visionaries to chart the future. A Women’s Convention, celebrating the role of women in our democratic struggles and envisioning a more inclusive society. A vibrant Youth Concert, showcasing talent, creativity, and the spirit of the Orange Movement. A thrilling 4-team football tournament involving AFC Leopards SC, Bandari FC, Gor Mahia FC, and Shabana FC, symbolising unity through sport.”

ODM build-up events

In the run-up to the main event, ODM will stage build-up activities across the country, with major highlights in Migori and Wajir counties.

“In addition, build-up events will be staged across the country, with major highlights in Migori and Wajir counties, as part of ODM’s commitment to inclusivity and grassroots participation. As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm ODM’s enduring pledge to the people of Kenya: to continue being the beacon of hope, the custodian of democracy, and the unrelenting defender of justice,” ODM stated.
