Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that people who are in government have been used to lying to innocent Kenyans.

Speaking during a church service at ACK St Patrick’s church in Kayole on Sunday, September 8, 2024, Gachagua said that he has faced criticism from some government officials for telling the truth adding that he is aware that some individuals dislike him because of his boldness and sincerity.

Gachagua encouraged government leaders to listen to Kenyans adding that good leadership requires one to have exemplary listening skills.

Additionally, he stated that leaders should learn to tell the truth because these days Kenyans are more intelligent and can not be easily swayed.

“Good leadership is listening to the people, listen to them because hao ndio unaongoza na ni muhimu ujue vile wanataka kuongozwa na uwasikilize vile wanaona na watu sio wendawazimu. Watu ni watu, therefore, I want to encourage leaders in the country to please listen to the people,” Gachagua said.

Mimi nasemanga ukweli and many people have a problem with me because, for a long time, people in government have been lying to Kenyans, many people who are in government are used to lies, so when I say the truth am criticized. Mimi nataka mungu anisaidie niendele kuongea ukweli kwa sababu ukweli ni wakudumu (I want God to help me so that I may continue to say the truth because the truth lasts longer). These days Kenyans are smart you can no longer cheat the people of Kenya they are very intelligent they know everything thanks to social media, so the time for cheating Kenyans is over.”

The self-proclaimed truthful man further revealed that he has aligned himself with Kenyans.

“I have aligned with the people of Kenya, I always tell the truth and if you hate me because of that there is nothing I can do just forgive me because telling the truth is very important continue to say the truth and listen to Kenyans,” he added.

Gachagua on forgiveness

The second in command further disclosed that he asked for forgiveness on behalf of the Kenya Kwanza coalition after throwing insults and disrespecting their opponents during the last general elections.

Additionally, the DP stated how important it is to be accountable for the mistakes you make adding that asking for forgiveness releases guilt and provides peace of mind.

“If you make mistakes along the way and you realise you have made a mistake, admit you have made a mistake and ask for forgiveness correct that mistake and you will become a better person. You cannot insist on doing a wrong thing so that you can be seen as a hero,” he added.

“Towards the run-up of the last general elections we made so many mistakes, we insulted others, mocked them, and disrespected others but we eventually sat down and realised we made a mistake and I asked for forgiveness. If you don’t ask for forgiveness you will carry a huge burden and once you ask for forgiveness your heart becomes lighter.”
