Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua has held a closed-door meeting with Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Mutua confirmed that their meeting centred around national interests and enhancing social protection.
Mutua indicated that Sudi briefed him on how he was working to foster good working relationships in his constituency.
“Today I held a meeting with Oscar Kipchumba Sudi AKA Mhandisi Mkuu in my office Oscar Sudi and I discussed national matters and how to enhance social protection services for Kapseret Constituency which he represents,” Mutua’s statement read in part.
Labour migration
Mutua stated that Oscar Sudi also shared ideas on enhancing labour migration with the country pushing to create more employment opportunities for Kenyans abroad.
The Labour Cabinet Secretary maintained that Sudi’s ideas will help increase production in the country.
“We also shared ideas on labour migration and how to enhance labour engagements for increased production in the country,” Mutua remarked.

The meeting comes a month after Mutua announced a series of reforms aimed at streamlining the recruitment and deployment process for Kenyans seeking employment abroad.
Mutua revealed that the new measures were the result of extensive consultations with key stakeholders both in Kenya and overseas.
The reforms are designed to bring efficiency to employment and labour migration, with several key administrative changes set to take effect. One of the major changes is the introduction of a new registration system for employment agencies.
The initial registration certificate for new employment agencies will now be valid for one year, costing Ksh500,000.
The renewal of registration certificates will be extended to a period of two years, a change from the current one-year renewal period. This will be priced at Ksh500,000 for two years, or Ksh250,000 per year with an option for a one-year renewal.
To ensure compliance, Mutua indicated that the National Employment Authority (NEA) is fully staffed in its compliance section to enforce these new regulations.
