Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has praised the recent G7 summit in Machakos, describing it as a significant boost for women leaders.

The summit, chaired by Gladys Wanga with Ida Odinga serving as the patron, brought together seven elected women governors and highlighted the progress and impact of women in leadership roles.

Crystal Asige reaction

Reacting to the summit, Asige, who was nominated on the Orange Democratic ticket, expressed that the event reinforced her belief that serving Kenyans at the highest levels is within reach.

She emphasized that the only limitations are those imposed by one’s imagination. Asige also acknowledged the support and inspiration from young MCAs Mercy and Mary, who were pictured with her.

“The G7 summit in Machakos, Chaired by Gladys Wang wit Ida Odinga as the patron, put a battery in our backs as women leaders. With every day that passes, I become more convinced that serving Kenyans at the highest level is totally within reach because limitation is only in the imagination.Sho ut out to Mercy and Mary(young MCAs),” she stated.

The G7 summit, held last weekend, was an initiative aimed at encouraging more women to take up leadership roles.

The gathering, hosted by Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos, also featured Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Fatuma Achani (Kwale), Cecily Mbarire (Embu), and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay). The governors discussed the notable progress made by women leaders and the positive impact of devolution in Kenya.

Waiguru, who chairs the Council of Governors (CoG), emphasized the initiative’s goal to boost female representation in leadership. She outlined their ambitious target to increase the number of women governors from the current seven to at least 24 by the 2027 elections.

During their two-day visit to Machakos, the governors inspected various development projects undertaken by the county government. Ndeti commended her G7 colleagues for their unity and commitment, noting that the caucus provides a valuable platform for sharing experiences and best practices.

The summit also saw participation from Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu. Both praised the G7 caucus for its efforts and unity. Kalonzo called on Kenyans to unite and support the Gen-Z movement in the fight against corruption and to promote effective leadership in the country.
