The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku over alleged inflammatory remarks he was reported to have made on two separate occasions.
In a September 9 letter, the NCIC said it is investigating Lenku over utterances he made on September 6 in Ewuaso, Kajiado West, and others he made on August 12 while at the Rombo Group Ranch.
The utterances, the agency says, were calculated to be hateful and are likely to affect harmonious coexistence between the Maasai and other communities, contrary to Section 62 (1) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act number 12 of 2008.
Lenku was summoned to appear before the agency on Thursday, September 12, at 10am.
“You are hereby required to appear at the commission offices at KMA Centre, 6th floor, Mara Road, Upper Hill on Thursday, the 12th day of September 2024 at 10am to assist the commission in the ongoing investigations,” CEO Harrison Kariuki said in the statement.
“Take notice that pursuant to section 29 of the NCI Act summons issued by the commission must be obeyed as if such summons were issued by the High Court.”
Kariuki added: “Take further notice that unless you appear in person at the aforementioned place, date and time, the commission shall institute contempt proceedings against you with the attendant consequences.”
