Visa taps Glovo in bid to train small traders

Digital payments firm, Visa, has partnered with  Glovo to empower small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) through a series of online training courses.

The programme, which is part of Glovo’s overarching initiative, Glovo Local, intends to bolster SMEs to thrive in an increasingly digital landscape.

The video courses target both aspiring local business owners seeking to launch their ventures and growth-minded proprietors of small and medium-sized enterprises looking to enhance their operations and expand their reach.

Tailored for businesses with 10 or fewer employees, the series covers essential topics such as digital payments, marketing strategies, social media utilization, and financial management.

The courses will be accessible across nine countries in southwest Europe and Africa, including Spain, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria, benefiting over 40,000 SMEs.

Fostering success

Sébastien Pellion, head of impact and sustainability at Glovo, emphasized the importance of collaborative ecosystems for entrepreneurs.  “We are using this opportunity to further our offering to SMEs and to strengthen a collaborative ecosystem for entrepreneurs and business owners that shape our cities. Only 20 per cent of SMEs in the markets where we operate sell via digital channels, resulting in a huge potential for them to tap into new customer bases,” said Pellion.

Through this deal, Visa aims to equip 40,000 SMEs with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate digitization challenges and capitalize on e-commerce and digital payment opportunities, ultimately fostering their success and contributing to economic development.
