Tourism board picks Chirchir in acting role as boss Radier leaves

Kenya Tourism Board(KTB) has appointed John Chirchir as its acting chief executive officer to replace the outgoing CEO, Dr Betty Radier, who has completed her full six-year term.

KTB chairperson Joanne Mwangi-Yelbert, while announcing the changes, termed Radier’s tenure a successful one, having seen through a strong destination brand with global recognition.

Radier has overseen key programmes, including the evaluation and listing of the Magical Kenya Signature Experience (MKSE), leveraging partnerships, as well upscaling the use of digital marketing.

She strongly believes that the efforts she has put in over the years will continue to enrich the tourism sector in Kenya.

“I am happy that the strategies we have put in place, together with the Ministry of Tourism and the private sector, to grow tourism numbers, are yielding fruit — with an increase in the number of domestic bed nights occupancy and international arrivals. We particularly applaud the domestic market for its support”, said Radier.

Chirchir, who has been serving as the digital marketing manager, has extensive knowledge in destination marketing, spanning over 20 years.

He holds a Masters degree in Hotel and Tourism Management, Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, and postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing.

He has been instrumental in the navigation of KTB’s digital programmes, accelerated by the Covid pandemic effects.
