Taxman projects Sh2.7 billion collection from Eldoret cargo

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has projected to collect Sh2.7 billion from cargo imports at the Eldoret International Airport this year to support the government’s initiative of development of projects and other needs across the country.

The taxman’s projection comes in the wake of the re-launch of the Eldoret International cargo flights by the Cabinet Secretary for Transport Kipchumba Murkomen and his Trade counterpart Moses Kuria.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Eldoret International Airport, KRA acting Commissioner of Customs and Control border Pamela Ahago revealed in the last three financial years, they collected Sh6.3 billion in taxes from cargo imports at the facility.

“Whereas we have noted a decline in cargo volumes in the last two financial years which has impacted revenue collection, we are optimistic that the cargo volumes will increase in the current financial 2023/24,” said Ahago.

She asked individuals and firms in export and import business to ensure full disclosure of imported goods, pay correct tax and provide authentic documentation to the customs officers.

Ahago reiterated the taxman’s commitment to enhancing their delivery of services with a view to reducing time and costs associated with delays in cargo clearance at the airports.
