Pain for Kenyans as EPRA increases fuel prices

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced an increase of fuel prices for the period between January 15 and February 14, 2025.
In a statement on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, EPRA announced that the retail prices for super petrol, diesel and kerosene have been increased by Ksh0.29 per litre, Ksh2.00 per litre and Ksh3 per litre respectively.
As a result, the retail fuel prices per litre in Nairobi will be Ksh176.58, Ksh167.06 and Ksh151.39 for the period up to February 14, 2025.
“In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th January 2025 to 14th February 2025,” EPRA stated.
“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene increase by KShs.0.29/litre, KShs.2.00/litre and KShs.3.00/litre respectively. In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will retail at Kshs.176.58, Kshs.167.06 and Kshs.151.39 effective midnight for the next 30 days.”
EPRA says the fuel prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
