Leaders told to woo investors, revive industries

Leaders from Nyanza region have been asked to look for investors to invest in new industries and revive those which collapsed or relocated elsewhere.

Mwembe Zone Butcheries Association chairman, Richard Nyakundi noted the region is endowed with massive resources which are yet to be tapped to create jobs for more than 3 million residents.

The official cited the Gusii community as having massive agricultural resources, soapstone but lacks adequate industries to process them, create jobs and boost the county’s economic growth and development.

“We had Coca Cola Company which employed more than 1,000 Kenyans but was relocated elsewhere. We want the investors to revive it to ease unemployment in the country” Nyakundi told the Business Hub.

He said the managers of the company left some machines and buildings on the site, noting the area has enough treated clean water to aid process the Company’s products. Nyakundi said the company used to serve residents in Kisii, Migori, Nyamira, Homa Bay and parts of Rift Valley, noting, the demand for its products is high.

“Our population is high and therefore, there is a ready market for the Company’s products. I urge the Company to open branch in Kisii County,” he asserted.
