KRA restores eTIMS online portal after service disruption

By , July 27, 2026

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the full restoration of the eTIMS Online Portal following a temporary service disruption that affected taxpayers seeking to generate electronic invoices.

In a notice issued on Monday, July 27, 2026, through its official X account, @KRACorporate, the authority confirmed that the platform was once again accessible.

“We would like to notify all stakeholders that the eTIMS Online Portal has been restored and now is fully operational,” taxman announced.

KRA also thanked taxpayers for their patience and understanding during the interruption and reminded them of alternative channels available whenever the online portal is unavailable.

Alternative invoicing channels remain available

The authority advised taxpayers to use the eCitizen platform at eCitizen.kra.go.ke, the USSD code *222#5, or the eTIMS Lite App, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, to generate invoices whenever the main portal experiences downtime.

The restoration notice, dated July 27, 2026, and featuring the KRA slogan “Tuipe Ushuru, Tujitegemee!”, highlighted the restored status of the eTIMS Online Portal, along with the three alternative invoicing options.

The latest update followed an earlier notice issued the same day in which KRA informed taxpayers that its technical team was working to restore access to the platform after users experienced difficulties accessing the service.

At the time, the authority apologised for the inconvenience but did not provide the cause of the disruption or indicate when services would resume.

Second disruption within a week

Monday’s interruption is the second affecting the eTIMS platform within a week.

KRA had earlier scheduled a 20-hour maintenance exercise for both the eTIMS and the older TIMS system from 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, to 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 23, 2026. However, the portal remained inaccessible after the scheduled maintenance period.

On Friday, July 24, 2026, users continued to report difficulties accessing the platform. KRA later confirmed a technical problem before announcing that services had been restored. Access challenges resurfaced days later before Monday’s restoration.

eTIMS supports tax compliance

The electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) is the platform through which businesses in Kenya generate, transmit and manage electronic tax invoices.

The requirement applies to companies, partnerships, sole proprietorships and other business entities, with electronic invoices serving as supporting documents for expense claims and tax compliance.

The temporary outage disrupted invoice generation for businesses that depend on the online portal for their daily operations. During the interruption, taxpayers were advised to continue using the alternative channels to minimise disruption.

KRA has not disclosed the technical cause of the recent service interruptions but has continued directing taxpayers to the available backup platforms whenever the main portal is unavailable.

With the portal now restored, taxpayers can resume generating electronic invoices through the online platform while retaining access to the alternative channels should future interruptions occur.
