John Musunga resigns as EABL director

John Musunga has resigned as a director of the East African Breweries Ltd (EABL).
In a statement on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, EABL revealed that Musunga resigned from his role effective March 18, 2025. He had served as a director of the company since July 2023.
“The Board of Directors of East African Breweries PLC hereby announces the resignation of Mr John Musunga as a Director of the Company with effect from 18th March 2025. John has served as a Director since July 2023,” the company stated.
“The Board takes this opportunity to thank John for his vibrant, and insightful contributions in the deliberations of the Board as well as the Corporate Governance Committee meetings, and his exemplary commitment to consumers and the community. The Board wishes John the very best for the future.”
In his place, the company has appointed Lorna Benton as a non-executive director.
Benton is currently the Group Performance & Reward Director at Diageo PLC, a role she assumed in April 2023. She previously led Global Reward for WPP PLC and Compass Group PLC, holding senior executive positions. In addition, she serves as an independent member of the Remuneration Committee of the Rugby Football Union.

Musunga’s career
Musunga is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria and has been in this role since October 2022. He joined Diageo in March 2021 as Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited and previously worked at GlaxoSmithKline where he held several senior executive roles at the global and regional level. He has worked in Nigeria, Belgium, South Africa and Kenya.
In addition, Musunga has served as Chairman of the Kenya HIV/AIDS Business Council, chaired the Kenya Association of Pharmaceutical Industries and served on the board of Kenya Vision 2030.
