The government has announced an extension of the public participation period for the proposed Kenya E-Commerce Policy, which aims to shape the future of digital trade in the country.

In a notice dated July 22, 2025, the State Department for Trade has extended the deadline for submission of views and comments from the initial date of July 21, 2025, to August 4, 2025.

Additionally, the hybrid public participation forum, previously scheduled for July 23, 2025, will now take place on August 6, 2025, in Nairobi, with the venue to be confirmed.

“The State Department for Trade wishes to notify the public that the final date for submission of views and comments on the draft Kenya E-Commerce Policy has been extended from the earlier advertised date of July 21, 2025, to August 4, 2025, and the hybrid public participation meeting to collate further views on the policy that had been earlier scheduled for July 23, 2025, will now take place on August 6, 2025, in Nairobi at a venue to be confirmed,” read the notice.

The development of this policy aims to provide a structured framework to guide the growth, regulation, and sustainability of e-commerce in Kenya.

Furthermore, the draft policy addresses key areas, including consumer protection, digital infrastructure, skills development, MSME support, and climate-responsive e-commerce practices.

Kenyans are encouraged to submit their input via email to info@trade.go.ke. The draft policy document is available for download on the State Department for Trade’s official website: www.trade.go.ke.
