Siaya County Commissioner Jim Njoka has warned residents against loitering around polling stations upon casting their votes today.

He said police will not entertain anyone loitering at polling centres after voting.“Only stakeholders accredited by IEBC will be allowed at polling and stations once the voting exercise ends. So those with ill agenda must not be seen in such areas,” he warned.

He  further noted that the county has been identified as an election hotspot, saying the government has heightened security and surveillance in every polling station to ensure today’s election is conducted in a peaceful environment.

Njoka has at the same time warned youths against being used by politicians to cause chaos during today’s exercise.

“We want to ask the young people to distance themselves from chaotic acts and should not allow any politician to hire them to cause violence,” he added.

“We know that some politicians may be tempted to stop voters turning out in large numbers in areas perceived to be their opponents’ strongholds,” he added.

Elsewhere in Machakos, County Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha urged residents to maintain peace as they head to the polls today. She said all necessary measures to ensure smooth running and credibility of the election have been taken and warned that any acts of incitement will not be entertained.

“I am asking you not to let any political divisions lead you to turn against your neighbour,” she said.
