Roots Party presidential candidate Prof George Wajackoyah and his running-mate Justina Wamae have fallen out over what has been linked to mistrust amidst counter accusations over betrayal and spying on each other.

Although the two downplayed claims that their relationship had broken down beyond repair, sources told People Daily the pair has not been in talking terms for almost a month.

It is due to the breakdown of their relationship that Wamae is said to have not been accompanying Wakackoyah on countrywide campaigns.

Whereas Wamae is accusing her principal of being sympathetic to Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga, the lawyer is on the other hand raising concerns she has been spying on Roots Party for Kenya Kwanza’s Deputy President William Ruto.

The row that has been simmering for weeks, leading to complete breakdown of communication between the two, was blown of the lid on Wednesday evening when Wamae claimed in an interview that her principal was backing Raila’s candidature against her wish.

Wamae warned that if she is pushed to take a similar stand, she “would support the contrary,” meaning that she has a soft spot for Ruto.

Not consulted

“The allegations that my principal and party leader is supporting Azimio are true, but we have not discussed that as a party. We have not agreed, neither have I been consulted. However, let me make it clear that if push comes to shove and I’m asked to support the other three presidential candidates who are our worthy opponents then, I, Justina Wangui Wamae, a youth and a woman of sound mind would support the contrary,” said Wamae, who wowed Kenyans with her eloquence and grasp for their party policies during the presidential running mate debate two weeks ago.

But yesterday, in what could expose an escalation of the rift, Wajackoyah, while rubbishing the claims by Wamae, who she described as ‘insignificant’ to his candidature and party because “she only came into the party just the other day”, said the claims were false and outrageous.
