ODM party leader Raila Odinga, who was Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential flagbearer in the just concluded elections, is set to address the nation following the announcement of his arch-rival William Ruto as the president-elect.

Raila will be making his address at 2 pm from the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC).

His address comes amid rigging claims and disputes about the final presidential results by a section of commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati declared Deputy President William Ruto the president-elect after mustering 7,176,141 votes (representing 50.49% of the votes cast). Raila came second with 6,942,930 votes (which was 48.85% of the votes cast).

4 IEBC Commissioners led by Vice-Chair Cherera disown yet-to-be-announced presidential results

Four commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) yesterday disowned the presidential results.

Speaking to members of the press at Serena Hotel on Monday evening, the commissioners led by Vice-Chairperson Juliana Cherera cited what they termed as ‘opaqueness’ of the electoral process, as grounds for rejecting the final tally.

“We have done the 2022 general election in the most efficient manner. We have ensured that all the challenges have been contained,” commissioner Cherera said.

“We have made sure that we have improved the standards and and we say as a fact as commissioners we have a done a good job.

“But some things need to be put out there as you can see the four of us are here and not at Bomas where the results is going to be announced because of the opaque nature of how this phase has been handled. We, therefore, cannot take ownership of this result that is going to be announced.”

She encouraged Kenyans to challenge the results in court.
