TIFA polls: Raila beats Ruto in Mombasa, Makueni, Nairobi
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga would beat his closest rival William Ruto by a big margin in Nairobi, Mombasa and Makueni counties according to the April polls conducted by TIFA.
The opinion polls place the ODM party leader at 41 percent in Nairobi, 48 percent in Makueni and 50 percent in Mombasa, against Ruto’s 26 percent in Nairobi, 18 percent in Makueni and 32 percent in Mombasa.
In Nairobi, 32 percent are undecided on the choice of a presidential candidate while one percent prefer other candidates.
In Makueni, Wiper Party leader, who is tipped to be Raila’s running mate has 21 percent of the votes while 13 percent are undecided.
In Mombasa, the remaining 18 percent are undecided, which slams the door for the other candidates seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the August 9 polls.
In terms of party popularity, ODM is the most popular party in Nairobi at 26 percent followed closely by Ruto’s UDA at 22 percent while the ruling Jubilee Party is a distant third at five percent. Kalonzo’s Wiper Party is at two percent while other parties share one percent in terms of popularity. 44 percent of Nairobi voters are undecided on the party of choice.
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance is the most popular in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa with 42 percent, 62 percent and 41 percent respectively. On the other hand, Kenya Kwanza enjoys 22 percent, 13 percent and 27 percent popularities in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa respectively. The remaining 36 percent, 24 percent and 32 percent of voters in Nairobi, Makueni and Mombasa are still undecided on the political alliance of choice.
In Makueni, the Wiper Party is the most popular party at 43 percent followed by UDA at 17 percent and ODM at 10 percent. Five percent support other parties while 25 percent of Makueni voters are undecided.
In Mombasa, ODM enjoys the most popularity at 36 percent followed by UDA at 23 percent while Jubilee and Wiper have two percent each. Other parties share a support base of two percent while 35 percent of Mombasa voters are undecided on their party of choice.
