Meet John Kaguchia, the County Speaker who wants to be Mukurwe-ini MP
39-year-old John Kaguchia who is the Nyeri County Assembly Speaker is hoping to become a Member of Parliament in August general election.
Here is his story;
Born in Kiuu village in Mukurwe-ini constituency, Nyeri county, he is the third born child of the late Richard Kaguchia and Mercy Wangechi.
He says his interest in politics became clear when he assumed the role of a speaker in Nyeri, and following the many interactions with the community as he attended many events organized or attended by the members of the county assembly.
He is now seeking Mukurwe-ini parliamentary seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and he’s running against other seven contestants in the race.
The seven include incumbent Anthony Kiai (TSP), Eng Kariuki Muchemi (Jubilee), Dennis Githaiga (TND), Njururi wa Ngumbu (CCK) and Lewis Munyiri (Independent).
Education
Kaguchia who is popularly known as ‘Waathi Mweru’ went to Githi Primary school and then joined the prestigious Lenana High School.
He later joined Kenyatta University and did a Bachelor of Commerce, and later did a Masters of Arts in diplomacy and international studies at the University of Nairobi.
Kaguchia later undertook a bachelor’s of law and later embarked on a post-graduate diploma for the same and upon completion, he was admitted to the bar.
Career
He joined the banking sector where he worked at the Equity Bank, and later worked at the Nairobi Water Company for a duration of 10 years before becoming Nyeri Speaker in 2017.
Kaguchia who now believes he is the best candidate for Mukurwe-ini seat, is married to Dr Susan Njoki Kaguchia and they have been blessed with three children.
He says if elected, he will advocate for people’s welfare by pushing for appropriate laws.
“My biggest inspiration is to impact people’s lives positively,” he says, adding that he’s young, energetic, visionary, intellectual, and willing to work for the people of Mukurwe-ini.
