Until she was named the Agano party presidential running-mate, Ruth Mucheru Mutua was a little-known politician. She came to the limelight after Agano presidential hopeful Waihiga Mwaure named her as his running mate in the elections that are less than three weeks away.

While being unveiled as the running mate, Mutua said she is up to the task, adding that the country needs new and fresh leadership.

“It is good to recognise that we are the new team, the dream team and the new energy. I am coming to represent women, the youth and those abled differently,” she said.

Should they be elected to office, Mutua would be the first to hold the most influential position a woman has ever held in Kenyan politics.

Before then, Mutua is scheduled to go up against Justina Wamae, the Roots Party deputy presidential candidate, in the tier of Deputy Presidential Debates at Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) campus today.

Mutua says she is a wife, a mother and a born-again Christian determined to bring change to a country that has more or less elected the same people in its 59 years of independence.

Mutua worked at Telkom (Orange) as a sales administration manager with over 15 years’ experience.

She began her education at State House Road Primary School and proceeded to Visa Oshwal Girls High School. Later, she enrolled at Kenya Institute of Business Training where she earned a Diploma in Logistics, Materials, and Supply chain management (2004-2005). She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
