Patrick Mbau, the Makueni Senatorial candidate in the just concluded August 9 elections, wants the election of Daniel Maanzo nullified.

In a demand letter, the politician asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) not to gazette the name of the senator-elect.

Daniel Maanzo’s victory ‘not credible’

Mbau, through his lawyer, claims the election process was marred by irregularities including voter bribery, tainting the credibility of the poll.

“There was massive voter bribery openly in various polling stations where voters were given notes in denominations of Ksh100 and Ksh200 each” the letter read in part.

Mbau, who ran on a Narc Kenya party ticket, further alleges that his agents were not allowed to access some polling stations, casting doubt on the number of votes awarded to the contestants.

Mbau argues that there is a difference in the total number of votes cast for positions of Governor, Senator and Woman Representative, raising eyebrows.

The total number of votes cast for Senator was 292,975, Woman Rep 291,820 and for the Governor 291,780.

Mbau finished third after garnering 36,676 votes against Maanzo’s 177,273. Outgoing governor Kivutha Kibwana got 59,034 votes.
