MCA induction starts ahead of County Assembly next week
The Nairobi County Assembly yesterday commenced a two-day orientation exercise for all 85 elected MCAs. The exercise which is set to be completed today will pave way for the first sitting that is set to take place next week.
“Ahead of the first sitting of the first Assembly, orientation has been organised for the elect members. The clerk of the County Assembly invites all the members-elect for the orientation sessions which will be held at the city hall building, County Assembly wing,” a notice from the County Assembly Clerk Edward Gichana reads.
Speaking during the exercise, MCAs who spoke to People Daily promised to have a peaceful assembly compared to the previous one.
“Nairobi County Assembly has a very bad image out here but this time round we are promising one of the best assemblies ever. Most members are coming in with a clear agenda of making city residents proud of their leaders,’ said Kayole Central MCA Jeremiah Themedu.
James Karanja, the Spring Valley/Matopeni ward representative promised to work closely with the new governor, Johnson Sakaja.
With the first session set for next week, the battle for its control is shaping out to be between Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party and President-elect William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Lobbying for top positions has intensified with Sakaja expected to gazette the first sitting not later than September 9, setting the stage for the Speaker’s election.
