I founded UDM party – Ruto says as Azimio affiliate crosses over to Kenya Kwanza
President-elect William Ruto now says he is the actual founder of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party.
Speaking during a meeting with the leaders of the party in Karen on Saturday, August 20, Ruto disclosed that he founded the party in 1998.
“We have walked the political journey with many members of UDM. To be brutally honest I am actually the founder of UDM… so thank you for bringing my party home” Ruto added.
The outgoing DP also officially welcomed the party to his Kenya Kwanza faction.
“We officially welcome United Democratic Movement (UDM) to the Kenya Kwanza coalition. We believe in freedom of association. Our plan to uplift the lives of ordinary Kenyans is getting more support,” Ruto stated.
He further assured the new members that they will participate in parliament, governance, executive and every other aspect of his administration.
“Our plan and agenda is enough to accommodate ideas and all leaders that form Kenya Kwanza. You are much welcomed,” he stated.
While welcoming the new members, the Kenya Kwanza leader additionally poked holes into the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition’s agreement.
“Only Kenya Kwanza has a public agreement, the other agreement for our competitors, nobody knows, I don’t even know how our competitors manage to keep people in Azimio,” Ruto added.
He further assured Kenyans that his administration will ensure that the criminal justice system executes its mandate without any interference from the government.
“We will never use the criminal justice system to leverage political support, we will ensure that the criminal justice system executes their mandate out of politics, I say this because I know so many people have suffered because of their political affiliations,” he added.
