As the D-day nears, the Kenya Kwanza party principals are sowing doubts about a credible election claiming that the polls will again expose a stain on history.

In the latest claim, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi says the back and forth between electoral body IEBC and the police over the arrest and harassment of its officials represented an attempt to show that the government will interfere with the polls.

He opined that this continuing effort to undermine electoral officials is enough evidence of a culpable threat to democracy which could send a fear-inducing message and consequently erode Kenyans’ confidence in IEBC.

“The unfolding spat between the electoral agency, IEBC, and the Police over the arrest of the election officials is a clear show of how the government is determined to interfere with the August 9th elections,” Mudavadi tweeted.

He called on the President as the commander of the armed forces to intervene and ensure police officers adhere to the law and allow IEBC to work in its capacity as an independent body.

“IEBC is an independent agency and should be allowed to fully prepare for the Poll without any hindrance; at least from the security agencies.

“It is an election offence for anybody to stand, harass or intimidate an election official. We are telling the guys harassing the IEBC officials to stop the game. Mr. President, tell your people to stop the harassment. Don’t erode the confidence Kenyans have in the commission,” he added.
