Azimio people are busy fighting one another instead of campaigning for Raila – Mike Sonko

By , June 27, 2022

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has decried infighting in the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition saying it threatens Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the August 9 general election.

Sonko said instead of the coalition party partners looking for votes for Raila, they are busy fighting each other and threatening strong candidates who can campaign better for the Azimio flag bearer.

Hapa (here), Azimio people are busy fighting one onother rather than looking for Baba’s votes. Wale viongozi hawawezi leta kura mingi (those politicians who cannot bring in a lot of votes) are busy fighting people who can help,” he said.

The former governor said, if the situation is not tamed, then it will negatively affect Azimio camp.

Write it somewhere, the little experience I have in politics for the last 15 years this ujuaji ya pesa nane which started from the party nominations to selective application of the constitution when clearing candidates very soon ita leta hasara kubwa sana,” he said.

Sonko was responding to a clip where United Democratic Party (UDP) party leader Cyrus Jirongo was recorded complaining about ODM party’s involvement in Western Kenya politics.

Speaking at Pan Paper Stadium in Kakamega during the weekend, Jirongo said Raila should not dictate his bid.

“We will give Raila votes for the presidency. I don’t want him to help me in my governor bid. I don’t need him to help me. His people are in Nyanza. He can’t come to our kitchen. Respect us.

“We will give him the president’s vote. All the other votes here (in Kakamega) will be for our party members,” he said.

Jirongo is vying for the Kakamega governor seat on UDP ticket.
