Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has accused President William Ruto of incompetence after he fired his entire cabinet.

Speaking on Friday, July 12, 2024, when he appeared in a televised interview with one of the local TV stations, Amisi stated that there is nothing to celebrate about President Ruto’s decision to dissolve his Cabinet.

Ruto’s move linked to constitution

Amisi argued that by firing his entire cabinet, President Ruto has not made any genius move, as he was only responding to ‘we the people’, in reference to the preamble of the Kenyan constitution.

“Why do we say that we, the people, have sovereign power and we only dedicate it? This is the moment we have seen we have power because what the president is doing is basically responding to we, the people. He has not made any genius moves; there is nothing to celebrate about the president sacking his cabinet,” Amisi argued.

The lawmaker went ahead to state that President Ruto is not the first to sack his entire cabinet since former President Mwai Kibaki already did it.

Amisi on Ruto’s incompetency
Amis pointed out that Kibaki made his move based on valid reasons, unlike Ruto, whose decision has exposed his incompetency.

“He is not the first one to fire his cabinet. Kibaki did it for various reasons. There is nothing to celebrate about the president sacking his cabinet. It actually shows how incompetent the president was to have an incompetent cabinet in the first place,” Amisi said.

Ruto’s announcement

President Ruto announced on Thursday, July 11, 2024, that he had fired all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi.

It is only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that were spared the purge.

Gachagua, by virtue of the law, will remain part of the cabinet since he can only leave the office through impeachment, resignation, being incapacitated, or death.

Ruto said he was forced to fire the Cabinet Secretaries after reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said, and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of the Cabinet and its achievements and challenges.

After his announcement, Ruto said he will now engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, to set up a broad-based government.

“Even with the progress we have made, I am acutely aware that the people of Kenya have high expectations of me and believe that this administration can undertake the most extensive transformation in our nation’s history,” Ruto said.
