Moments after being confirmed as the acting Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Musalia Mudavadi has declared Friday, November 1, 2024, as a public holiday.
The news has been conveyed by a gazette notice released on Thursday, November 31, 2024.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in the exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 of the Public Holidays Act and sections 3(b) and 12(3) of the Assumption of Office of President Act, declares Friday, the 1st, November 2024, to be a public holiday, being the date of the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate,” the notice read.
Mudavadi has made the declaration as he starts his new role as the stand-in Interior CS.
His recent role came following the nomination and appointment of Kithure Kindiki as the new Deputy President.
Kindiki will be sworn in as Kenya’s third DP on Friday, November 1, 2024, following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua, who is fighting for a lifeline through the courts, was impeached after the Senate upheld five of the charges in the motion that originated from the National Assembly.
The holiday comes just days after Kenyans celebrated the country’s 61st Mashujaa Day, whose celebrations were held in Kwale County on October 20, 2024.
