Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetang’ula has expressed his heartfelt condolences following the demise of former Kimilili Member of Parliament Suleiman Murunga.

The deceased served as Kimilili MP between 2013 to 2017 while flying the Ford Kenya colours led by Wetang’ula.

In his condolence note on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Speaker of the National Assembly described the late Murunga as a dedicated leader who served his constituents with unwavering commitment.

Wetang’ula highlighted that Murunga, Didmus Barasa’s predecessor, was a champion for societal justice and development whose legacy would be remembered.

“Murunga was a champion for the needs of his community, advocating tirelessly for development and social justice. His legacy will be remembered by many whose lives he touched through his service and leadership,” Wetang’ula’s statement read in part.

Role in Ford Kenya

Besides representing the electorates, Wetang’ula hailed the deceased as a transformative leader who helped the Ford Kenya Party expand its roots in the country.

Murunga served as Ford Kenya’s Director of Elections.

“As a member of Ford Kenya, he not only represented his constituents with integrity but also played a pivotal role as the party’s Director of Elections, contributing significantly to the political landscape of our nation,” the statement added.

With his strong record and legacy, Wetang’ula appealed to other lawmakers, his friends and family to honour him by continuing to advance the works and values he held firmly throughout his life.

“In this time of grief, let us honour his memory by continuing the work he was passionate about, advancing the interests of our people and strengthening our democracy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him,” Wetang’ula concluded.

The current Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also passed his condolences, expressing his sympathies to Murunga’s family and friends.

On his side, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya stated that Murunga’s contribution to society will always be remembered.
