The 2021 Kenya Cup season will come to an end on Saturday when defending champions KCB lock horns with familiar rivals Kabras Sugar in the much awaited final.

A 35-17 win for KCB over Menengai Oilers in the semi-finals, KCB head into the match a confident side, whereas Kabras Sugar will be hoping to cut down on defensive errors after a 39-19 home win against Strathmore Leos.

Kabras Sugar forwards coach, however, believes the past losses will motivate the team to perform better in the upcoming final.

In an interview with People Digital, the long serving assistant coach said the team has learnt from its experiences and will use it as a guide ahead of the tantalising final.

“The past is always a useful guide, but never a destination. So, we had a long hard look at the good and the bad in those four final losses, and built up on the good, while cutting the bad,” Habimana said.

Habimana who has no record of publicly rebuking his players, on Friday said the buck ultimately stopped with the management and the coaching staff if by any chance the team happens not to win the cup final.

“The team has been preparing very well, and the mood and focus is very high. We look forward to executing that on the material day,” Habimana said.

Habimana will rely on the experience of Fijian born Jonah Kubu, Shujaa utility Felix Ayange and Derrick Ashiundu to propel the squad to new heights.

Kabras and KCB have met 13 times since their first encounter in 2014, but the bankers have had the lion’s share, winning in nine encounters. The sugar millers have won twice, with one match ending in a draw.

Both teams have met four times in the Kenya Cup final, where KCB have been fortunate enough to edge out the sugar men.

However, Kabras Sugar have made their intentions clear this season, beating KCB 30-23 at Nandi Bear Sports Club to top the regular 2021 season unbeaten.
