BetKing Premier League side Bandari FC have promised to approach the quarter-finals of the FKF Betway Cup with the seriousness it deserves.

The blue and white ensemble, who are handled by former AFC Leopards trainer  Andre Casa Mbungo, have downplayed the fact that they will be playing a modest opposition in Equity FC in in Nairobi next weekend.

 Equity Bank who have been dominating the Kenya Interbank Games over the last couple of years earned the right to play Bandari in the last eight stage after seeing off Vegpro 2-1 at Thika Stadium in a round of sixteen match at the weekend.

 At stake for the winner in the championship is a cool Sh2 Million and a chance to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup to boot.

 The Dockers’ technical director Twahir Muhiddin, nicknamed Sheikh, said it would be misguided to treat the Equity FC lightly given that football dynamics in the country have changed.

 “Yes, we are more experienced, but we won’t underestimate them as they have good players as well.

Add on to the fact that they have reputable coaches and that is the reason why we should give them the respect they deserve,’’ said Muhiddin.     

 Bandari FC sailed through to the cup quarterfinals after beating Sigalagala TTI 5-0 last  Sunday at Utalii grounds.

 Benjamin Mirimi put Bandari ahead in the 4th minute with his teammate Wilberforce Lugogo netting the second goal in the 20th minute.

Murimi got his brace, shooting on target for Bandari in the 36th minute, closing the first half score at 3-0.

 Upon resumption, Guelord Mwamba gave Bandari FC their fourth goal in the 51st minute.

A mishap by Sigalagala TTI’s defender Cleophas Oluoch, led to Bandari FC bagging their fifth goal one minute past stoppage time. This sealed the full-time scores at 5-0 in favour of Bandari.

In the meantime, most of the weekend results went according to predictions although the shocker came with KCB bidding goodbye to the event after being vanquished by Kariobangi Sharks.

KCB waded into the Shark infested waters but failed to book a slot in the quarterfinals after losing 5-3 on post-match penalties.

 At the Ruaraka Grounds, Nairobi City Stars and Gor Mahia proceeded to the quarterfinals after beating Ulinzi 2-0 and Mara Sugar 2-1 respectively.

Following the win, Stars will take on Bidco United, 1-0 winners over Egerton FF, in the last eight as Gor engage Sharks in yet another mouth-watering fixture.

AFC Leopards also advanced to in a six-goal thriller beating Bungoma Superstars 4-2 at the Thika Stadium to set a quarter final date with Tusker who disposed of Luanda Villa 1-0 in Ruaraka.

Exactly seven years ago, Kenya’s most successful club Gor Mahia had their egos bruised by little-known Eldoret outfit GFE 105 who prevailed 4-2 on post-match penalties at Moi Stadium in Kisumu to bundle out K’Ogalo in the FKF GoTV Shield Cup which is the forerunner of the FKF Betway Cup.

 The results sent tongues wagging amongst Gor’s faithful but it was certain that the club, which was spurred on by estimated 5,000 fans on the dark Sunday, had learned its lessons not to underrate a featureless outfit.

, who almost booked a ticket to the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1986 before falling to Gor’s solitary goal netted by Sammy “Jogoo”Onyango against the run of play in the Moi Golden Cup final at Nyayo National Stadium, is apparently reading from the same script as K’Ogalo.
