No flag-bearer yet for One Kenya Alliance

One Kenya Alliance has not yet settled on who will fly the Presidential flag in next year’s General Election, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi said yesterday.
Mudavadi’s disclosure came amid widely circulated claims in a local daily that Kanu national chairman Gideon Moi is the candidate favoured by government operatives and people close to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, Mudavadi dismissed the reports and stated that the alliance’s principals: himself, Gideon, Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula are still discussing and consulting widely.
Speaking during a morning radio talk show on Egesa FM, Mudavadi also dismissed claims by rivals that the OKA is a government project, terming it propaganda.
“We already have talks which are ongoing between the four of us and we have our door open for like-minded politicians who are ready to share our vision so that we can move forward as a country,” Mudavadi said.
He also spoke a day after he held a consultative meeting with fellow OKA principals on Tuesday, which is understood to have dwelt on seeking to bring on board more political partners.
“OKA, is one of the many political alliances that are coming up a head of the 2022 General-Election, but for now it’s just a discussion and looking at ways of expanding our vision to bring on board those we can work together to build a formidable team,” he said.
Sources who spoke to People Daily said the Tuesday meeting, held at Wetang’ula’s residence in Karen, Nairobi for the better part of the afternoon, explored ways of broadening the Alliance to include key political figures from the Mt Kenya, Coast and Nyanza regions.
