The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji is still not ready to begin the trial of former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, two years after he was charged over the multi billion-shilling Kimwarer and Arror dams’ case.

Yesterday, when Rotich and his co-accused appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti for a pre-trial conference, the DPP sought two more weeks to supply relevant documents to the defence team.

The documents include witness statements of former Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge and former Wildlife Principal Secretary Susan Koech, who have since been made state witnesses.

“We are not ready to proceed as the DPP seeks two weeks to file an amended charge sheet and complete full disclosure in the case,” said the prosecutor.

But the defense lawyers led by Kioko Kilukumi and Katwa Kigen protested the application to have the case adjourned, saying the application was an abuse of the court process and the accused person’s right to a fair hearing. The matter will be mentioned on March 19.
