Former MP charged with stealing settler’s land
Former Laikipia East Member of Parliament(MP) Antony Mutahi has been charged before a Nairobi court with stealing a 19.5-acre land in Nanyuki belonging to Livia Lepoer Trengh.
Mutahi was charged with five counts of fraud, among them theft of a title deed from the Ministry of Lands Ardhi House for the land valued at Sh 18.8 million.
“On the 5th Day of August 2016 at the Ministry of Lands,…you stole a title deed for land valued at Ksh18.5 million,” read the charge sheet in parts.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, Mutahi denied the five charges of fraud and was released on a bond of sh 1 million or a cash bail of Sh 300k.
In August 2020, the Ex-MP was committed to a six months civil jail by an Environment and Land Court in Nyeri for interfering with suit on the same land.
The complainant, Fiona Ansett had sued Mutahi for developing the land against a court order.
“Mutahi is hereby committed to a civil jail for a term of six months for contempt of court for deliberately disobeying orders of this court given on November 8, 2017,” ordered Justice Mary Oundo.
The disputed land is opposite British Army Training Camp on Nanyuki-Doldol road in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
