 KAMPALA,

The Uganda-China Friendship Badminton Tournament 2019 on Saturday kicked off here with 16 teams tussling it out.

The annual two-day event has brought together both local and Chinese company teams.

“We are very happy with the strides badminton is making. We shall continue to sponsor the Uganda-China tournament which brings together several companies and by doing so we shall be supporting the sport grow,” said Zheng Zhuqiang, Chinese ambassador to Uganda.

Zheng was speaking while officiating at the opening of the tournament which is organized by the China Alumni Association in Uganda and financed by the Chinese embassy.

The tournament was also started to get Ugandan business people to interact with prospective Chinese business partners.

Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association thanked the Chinese embassy for continuously financing the tournament. (Xinhua)
