World 1,500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot is looking forward to yet another great show at the second leg of the 2020 Diamond League meet set for Stockholm on Sunday.

The Commonwealth silver medallist who had huge ambitions of lowering his personal best time of 3:28.41 in Monaco is upbeat he can only get better with more races coming.

“I was hoping to lower my PB but that was not the case. I missed it by a very narrow margin,” said Cheruiyot who clocked 3:28.45 in Monaco.

The athlete says he is not worried about the in form 19-year-old European champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen who was second in Monaco.

“I am used to healthy competition. I am glad he is there to push me. That way we become better as athletes,” he added.

Having nursed an injury in February, Cheruiyot admitted the pause from competition helped him get well for the season.

“The excitement was evident getting to the track and competing and connecting with friends from all over. It was fun,” he added.

Cheruiyot is also happy that the strict Schengen visa guideline drawn by the European Union due to the Covid-19 pandemic has been sorted out by the Kenyan government.

“I still hope more athletes will be cleared to race in Europe. That said, it is pleasant that the doors are slowly opening,” he added.

Kenya was omitted from the list of countries whose citizens are allowed to travel into Schengen states when the EU opened its borders on July 1 as coronavirus restrictions around the world continue easing.

World 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri who set a new meeting record over the distance when she clocked 14:22.12 in Monaco, outsprinting world 10,000m silver medalist Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia, is the other top Kenyan athlete who has been confirmed for Stockholm.
