Deputy President William Ruto has appealed to the Inter-Religious Council chaired by Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria to expedite discussions on how and when to re-open places of worship.

He challenged church leaders to make timely presentations to the council established by the government to review re-opening of churches in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking when he met East Africa Pentecostal Church leaders from Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nairobi and Isiolo counties in his Karen office, Ruto welcomed the efforts by the council to develop  protocols for the systematic resumption of services.

The clerics were led by church presiding general overseer Bishop Samuel Henry Muguna.

“We are pleased the council is already developing protocols for the systematic resumption of services in the houses of prayer,” a statement posted on the DP’s Facebook account read in part.

Ruto’s remarks came even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is today expected to officially lunch the inaugural meeting of the interfaith council.
