Embu Governor Martin Wambora has disclosed that four people who travelled from overseas are currently quarantined at a local hospital.

Speaking during a press conference by the Council of Governors, Wambora said the four have not been tested because the hospital has no equipment to test the virus.

He said testing of the virus has been centralised and called for installation of testing kits in all Level Four and Five hospitals in the country.

“I want to give an example of Embu, we got four residents who have been staying oversees, three in UK and one in Holand. We were able to contain them but we could not test them,” said Wambora.

The governor said residents raised concern over the four who had travelled from abroad. He lamented over lack of enough protective gear, including boots for personnel who will  handle any suspected cases.

Outside Embu Level Five Hospital, taxi drivers operating in area have installed a hand-washing centre.

Avoid crowds

Kinyua Mukurino, a taxi driver, said that in most cases they ferry sick people from the hospital or from town to the hospital, and following the corona outbreak, every client must wash their hands before boarding the taxis.

Andrew Muchoi, a resident,  said the responsibility of fighting coronavirus should not only be a concern for government alone but all people.

“Everybody should wash his or her hands and avoid crowded areas, this virus is not a  joke,” he said.

A spot check in various entities in Embu  revealed that residents have taken seriously the preventive directive of frequent handwashing to keep the virus at bay.

Various financial institutions, supermarkets, hotels and shops, among others, have adhered to government directives to install hand-washing centres.
