Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has warned Kenyans against a voting trend that propelled President William Ruto to power in the last 2022 general elections.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, December 2, 2024, Amisi stated that President Ruto’s inadequacy to provide the best leadership for the nation provides an opportunity for fresh blood to ascend to power.

However, he warned that this can only happen if Kenyans avoid voting for the sake of punishing an incumbent Head of State.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker argued that Kenyans voted with an aim of punishing former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the last electioneering period and in the process, they propelled Ruto to power.

Amisi on presidential candidates

To avoid the repeat of the same, Amisi has urged Kenyans to critically assess the presidential candidates that will be on the ballot before making a decision.

“It is a time like now that heroes and sheroes emerge .Wining and angry statements are not one of the solutions. Ruto inadequacy to provide the best leadership for the nation is the achilles heels that can catapult new blood to the centre of power.

“Some people voted Ruto to punish Uhuru and Raila for whatever reasons, see the results? don’t make the same mistake of hurrying on a candidate just because you want to punish ruto. We will end up in a perennial game of musical chairs without tangible progress. This is the time to critically assess individuals you want to replace Ruto with. Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi stated.

Ruto’s competitors

Amisi’s remarks come at a time President Ruto’s administration is facing immense criticism, with the recent shift from the National Insurance Health Fund (NHIF) to Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that has since transformed into Taifa Care, administered by Social Health Authority (SHA), facing numerous controversies.

Several candidates have since declared their interest in the 2027 presidency with an aim of unseating President Ruto, with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah’s recent entry sparking mixed reactions.

Others that are eyeing the house on the hill are Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

However, Amisi recently warned that allowing many candidates to vie for the 2027 presidency is akin to courting trouble, arguing that Ruto will use them to get an easy win.
