‘You are courting trouble ahead’ – MP Amisi warns over emergence of many presidential candidates
Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has warned that the emergence of many presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections is akin to courting trouble.
Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Amisi stated that having as many candidates as possible to vie for the presidency is someone’s magic formula that is in the offing.
Emerging candidates
According to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker, the majority of the emerging candidates are directly or indirectly sponsored by the very man they pretend to remove from power.
Amisi argues that some of the candidates that have declared their interest in the house on the hill have clear instructions and narratives to advance during campaigns.
He further stated that all of the candidates might find themselves on the ballot since there will be no one to do the mini-election to ascertain the most preferred.
“The magic formula in the offering: have as many candidates as possible to vie for the presidency. They all believe they are clean, new, and loved by Kenyans. Some are genuine, but the majority are directly or indirectly sponsored by the very man they pretend to remove from power, with clear instructions and narratives to advance during campaigns. Who will do the mini-election to ascertain the most preferred? Not possible. Results; kila mtu kwa ballot kesi baadaye,” Amisi stated.
Presidential win
The second-term lawmaker went ahead to state that having many presidential candidates on the ballot will make it hard for the winner to achieve the constitutional requirement of 50%+1.
As a result, Amisi argues that the country will head to a presidential rerun.
Since most candidates might be tired, financially strained, and exhausted, Amisi claims that they will be scrambling to make a deal with the incumbent president for Prime Cabinet Secretary and various other CS slots.
The lawmaker suggests that if Kenyans want to unseat President Ruto in the 2027 elections, they should identify a suitable candidate and rally behind him/her.
“50%+1 not achieved. Cause a presidential runoff. Tired, financially strained, and exhausted, every candidate will be scrambling to make a deal with the incumbent for Prime Cabinet Secretary, CS Interior, CS Finance, etc. Moi survived this way for 24 years. Kenyans don’t learn. If you want Ruto out. Identify a suitable candidate and rally behind. Otherwise, you are courting trouble ahead. Kenya needs a Renaissance!” Amisi said.
