Gender activists yesterday demanded immediate action to end the recent wave of attacks targeting women across the country.
Led by the President of Public Service Governance (PSG) Esther Waringa, the activists issued a passionate appeal for immediate action to address issues ranging from women’s safety to national economic reforms.
Waringa highlighted the increasing threat to women’s safety, citing a surge in abductions, violence and deaths that have happened recently.
“Women are fearing for their lives as they go to work, market places, and even as they provide for their families. This must stop because every woman’s life matters,” she stated.
She urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and other government bodies to expedite investigations and bring perpetrators to justice.
She also criticized President William Ruto’s State of the Nation address last Thursday, calling his six-month timeline to address these issues too long. “Six months is a long time, Mr President. Kindly revise this to three months,” she said.
The high cost of living emerged as another key concern. As primary caregivers, women are disproportionately affected by rising food prices, energy costs, and business expenses, she stated.
