Shabana FC have confirmed that their highly anticipated return to Gusii Stadium will be open to fans after their appeal was approved.

The club had initially been handed a five-match home ban, requiring them to play behind closed doors starting with their match against Posta Rangers on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

The ban followed an incident during their Match Day Three fixture, which resulted in damaged seats at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and injuries to two officers. Shabana FC was also ordered to cover the costs of the damages and medical expenses.

However, the club has successfully appealed the ruling, allowing fans to attend their matches while the case is under review.

“In light of the recent ruling by the Kenya Premier League, Leagues, and Competition Committee mandating that Shabana FC play five matches behind closed doors, we would like to provide an update on our response and next steps,” read a statement from the club.

“Shabana FC formally appealed this ruling to the Sports Disputes Tribunal of Kenya (SDT). We are pleased to announce that our appeal has been approved by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) League and Competition Committee, allowing us to host our home matches at Gusii Stadium while we await the hearing and determination of the case,” the statement continued.

Secretary General Elizaphana Kerama expressed gratitude to the fans for their patience during the ordeal.

“We wish to express our sincere gratitude to our supporters for their patience and understanding during this challenging period. Your steadfast support is invaluable to us, and we remain committed to providing our maximum effort in supporting our team and all stakeholders involved in the sport.”

He also took the opportunity to thank the club’s legal team, led by Stephen Ombasa, Dunstan Omari, and CEO Jefferson Kiyondi, for their expertise in handling the case.
