World Athletics U-20 Championship: Murkomen hails Serem, Kosgei for winning gold, silver in men’s 3000m steeplechase
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has congratulated Edmund Serem and Matthew Kosgei for winning gold and silver respectively in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the World Athletics Under-20 Championship in Lima, Peru.
Serem’s performance
Serem led a 1-2 finish in the men’s 3000m steeplechase as the curtains came down on the age-grade competition, early Sunday morning, September 1, 2024.

He clocked a world under 20 lead of 8:15.28, ahead of compatriot Matthew Kosgei who bagged silver in a personal best of 8:17.46.

Murkomen on Team Kenya
Murkomen in a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, September 1, 2024, said he was proud with Team Kenya’s performance in the championship.
The former Transport CS said Kenya had won three gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze at the World Athletics Under-20 Championship.
Murkomen went ahead to laud the entire team of Team Kenya athletes and the technical personnel, for what he termed as a job well done.
He says he had told Team Kenya to fly the Kenyan flag high in Lima, noting that he was proud the team did not disappoint.

Murkomen had on Saturday, August 31, 2024, hailed Kenya’s junior stars for their performance at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.
