Police have not arrested a murder suspect who jumped bail.

Sammy Kipruto had been charged before an Eldoret Court with threatening to kill a real estate businessman last year.

Kipruto was first charged before Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo on October 26, 2023 and released on a Sh70,000 bond.

Tracking suspect

When the matter came before the magistrate yesterday, the prosecution informed him that police were still searching for the suspect after he jumped bail.

“Your honour, we have been informed that the police are still tracking the suspect with a view of arresting him after he jumped bail last year,” said the state counsel.

Kipruto denied the charge of threatening to bludgeon Duncan Kitur to death with a machete on September 15, 2023, at the Chemaluk area on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Unable to arrest

Since the hearing of the case commenced last year, the suspect had not turned up in court prompting the presiding magistrate to adjourn the case at least three times.

A warrant of arrest issued against him by the court has proved fruitless with the police unable to arrest the suspect eleven months down the line since he went underground.

The matter will be mentioned on July 30, 2024.
