The Nairobi Racecourse is set to host the 52nd anniversary of the Africa Concours d’Elegance, an event organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, on September 29.

So far, more than forty entries have been received for the prestigious event, which is considered the classiest on Kenya’s motorsport calendar.

Notable entries include Alfa Romeo cars from Rishi Chandaria and Gurvin Bassi. Hamed Ehsani will showcase a 1976 Morris Minor, while newcomer Pablo Kengara will compete with a 1970 Fiat 500F and a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 230E, challenging seasoned competitor Dr. Joseph Aluoch’s 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE.

Motorcycle entries feature Captain David Mwaura and Lawrence Muchilwa on Suzuki bikes. From Uganda, Gianfranco Masetto will ride a BMW R1200 GSA, and Enzo Amato will showcase a 2002 Honda Gold Wing.

Lucy Mungai, the secretary of the Africa Concours d’Elegance, highlighted the early rush of entries, urging latecomers to register soon to ensure their participation and focus on machine preparation.

The event’s regulations are accessible via the official website of the event or directly from the Concours office.

What’s more, the event director Peter Wanday clarified the judging criteria, emphasizing preparation, fit and finish, and the quality of chrome and paintwork over originality.

Cars with engine problems incur a 10-point penalty, significantly impacting podium chances.

Judging starts with an underside inspection on the TotalEnergies Quartz ramp, followed by exterior, interior, engine, and road safety checks. Competitors in costumes are also judged separately for the Wine Gallery-sponsored awards.

Past winners include classic cars like a 1928 Chevrolet and a 1934 Rolls Royce Boatail, and motorcycles such as a 1941 Indian Scout and a 1925 DKW, showcasing the event’s rich history.
