Soccer stakeholders in the country have raised concerns over the delayed Football Kenya Federation Annual General Meeting.

The meeting had been planned for March of this year, but a court injunction saw it postponed indefinitely. The meeting was, among other things, to discuss how the FKF elections were to be conducted later this year.

The postponement of the AGM puts the election roadmap in jeopardy, and the stakeholders are now concerned.

Former Harambee Stars striker Dennis Oliech, FKF NEC members for Eastern Mureithi Nabea, Nyamira’s Luthers Mokua, Murang’a Seal chairman Robert Macharia, and John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla, Harold Ndege, Hussein Mohamme, dand James Situma, as well as Kenya Football Referees Association GMT Otieno, convened a meeting and expressed their concerns.

“It is imperative to note that the terms of office of elected delegates at the branch level come to an end on September 18, 2024. With every passing day, the possibility of holding free, fair, and credible elections gets slimmer.

“A constitutional crisis looms should we fail to hit the critical milestones set in the FKF constitution on matters of governance and the electioneering process. Simply put, there will be no delegates to participate in any elections come September 18th this year,” they said in a joint statement.

The stakeholders further said the uncertainty is also putting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations’ preparations in jeopardy.

“The failure to hold an AGM and provide a clear and honest roadmap for the upcoming elections is a threat to our AFCON 2027 host status. These elections are not just a procedural requirement; they are the foundation upon which our preparations for AFCON 2027 will stand.

“Without a newly-elected and functioning FKF office, our dreams of hosting this prestigious tournament will crumble. In a recent communiqué from FIFA dated March 26, 2024, the FKF was formally warned about a possible suspension by the world governing body following the shenanigans that continue to bedevil the Kenyan federation,” the statement added.

They want a decision taken swiftly to clear up the uncertainty surrounding the FKF elections.

“We are here today to raise a red flag. We urge all stakeholders, and this includes the delegates, clubs, government of Kenya, FIFA, and CAF, to take decisive action now and make sure the country is not held at ransom by a few rogue individuals who are hell-bent on destroying the future of millions of youth,” it concluded.
