Kakamega Homeboyz ceded more ground in the fight for a top-five finish in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League after a 2-2 draw against Bidco United.

Homeboyz took the lead twice at Dandora Stadium in an early Saturday, May 11, 2024 kickoff but were held to a draw by Bidco United who kept fighting throughout the game.

The draw means that Homebpyz’s winless run has extended to six games, a run that saw them drop from the title race bracket. On the other hand, Bidco are now unbeaten in their last five games.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Kipkirui opened the scoring for the 2023 FKF Cup champions in the eighth minute. The former Zoo FC and Gor Mahia striker managed to head into the back of the net to give the visitors a lead.

In the 40th minute, Bidco United restored parity after Marvin Nderitu scored with an assist from Brian Onyango.

More goals

Homeboyz were determined to restore their lead in the early moments of the second half and Kipkirui came close to scoring but his header, amid confusion in the Bidco United backline, went out slightly.

However, Homeboyz scored the second goal when Ambrose Sifuna found the back of the net just minutes after Kipkirui’s miss. Sifuna found himself with a good space to score as he was not marked by anyone at that point.

A mistake from Kakamega Homeboyz‘s goalkeeper James Ssetuba gave Douglas Mokaya a perfect chance to score and restore parity in favour of Bidco United.

Homeboyz had chances to score more goals but Brian Eshihanda, in the 88th minute, and Gospel Otieno, failed to find the back of the net.

Towards the end of the game, the tension in the game rose so high that Kakamega Homeboyz’s head coach Patrick Odhiambo was sent away from the touchline following an altercation with the referee.

There was a perfect chance for the visitors to claim a late goal in the fourth minute of added time but Christopher Masinza failed to slot the ball into an almost empty net.
