Gor Mahia were unable to pick up maximum points from their Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Kakamega Homeboyz in a match played at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

The Premier League champions were lacklustre in performance and were made to pay as they collected just a point from the goalless draw.

Benson Omala would have broken the deadlock in the 26th minute but failed to do so even though he had been put through on goal by Paul Ochuoga.

Glen Masaba for Homeboyz came close to scoring when he had a good chance, although from some distance, but saw his effort go wide.

A chance for K’Ogalo to go ahead came after Ochuoga made another decisive move before he set up the ball for Shariff Musa, who could not find the back of the net from close range. Just before the break, Austin Odhiambo had his chance, but he could not beat the goalkeeper even after making his way past two opponents.

A combination between Musa and Odhiambo almost resulted in a goal, but the former headed wide from close range.

In the end, Homeboyz managed to hold the champions, who would have extended the gap at the top after Tusker lost to Kariobangi Sharks.

The next game for Gor Mahia will be a Mashemeji Derby showdown against AFC Leopards, and they will have to be in top form since their arch-rivals have been solid and rather lethal in the second round.

Struggling Shabana win

Meanwhile, just after getting eliminated from the FKF Cup, Shabana returned to Premier League action and swept Posta Rangers aside by claiming a 3-0 win at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

Posta Rangers could not match Sammy Omollo’s spirited side, who scored in the early stages of the first half. Lloyd Khavuchi scored the opening goal in the 20th minute before Mathew Tegisi added the second just three minutes before the halftime break.

Tore Bobe scored the third goal in the 47th minute as Posta Rangers, just like in the first half, struggled to find rhythm. Michira, who came in for Japhet Lihanda, scored in a magnificent fashion, with Prince Ayeko providing the assist.

This is Tore Bobe‘s fifth win of the season, but despite the huge win, they remain deep in the relegation zone. Their only hope is to keep the good form from this game running if they have to survive the chop in the end.
