Kakamega Homeboyz made a step towards defending their Football Kenya Federation Cup by defeating Tusker 1-0 on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Oliver Majak scored for Homeboyz the vital goal that ended Tusker’s journey in the domestic competition at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

Davis Odoyo had a chance to take Tusker ahead but failed to capitalise on his chance that came in the 10th minute. Odoyo would have placed the ball far beyond Homeboyz’s goalkeeper James Ssetuba, but the Ugandan made a reflex save to deny the visitors a leading goal.

After missing to score from their chance, Tusker were punished when Majak’s header put the defending champions ahead. Majak connected to a cross delivered by John Omondi in the 12th minute and fired into the net.

Mike Kibwage and John Njuguna had chances to score to equalise and even take Tusker ahead but none found the back of the net.

Eric Omondi found the back of the net for Tusker in the 86th minute but the goal was controversially disallowed for offside.

The match winner was decided from the spot after the game ended in a 2-2 draw within regulation time.

Batoto ba Mungu fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a draw and go on to win in the post-match shootout.

Meshack Karani gave Bungoma Stars the lead through a penalty after Victor Augo brought him down in the ninth minute before the lead was doubled by Wycliffe Wanyonyi.

Humphrey Mieno scored Sofapaka’s first goal with a long-range shot in the 65th minute. Paul Odhiambo restored parity in the 72nd minute and none of the sides could manage a winning goal in the remaining minutes.
