KQ return to Eldoret
Road and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, alongside Transport PS Mohamed Daghar, is expected to officiate the resumption of Kenya Airways flights to Eldoret on Monday morning.
Kenya Airways (KQ) is set to reintroduce passenger flights on the Nairobi-Eldoret route after a 10-year hiatus.
The carrier, which ceased operations on the route in 2014, will now operate flights to the destination five times per week, providing customers with another convenient travel option.
Safari Rally reconnaissance
The much-anticipated Safari Rally week is finally here, with Monday marking the beginning of the reconnaissance of the Kasarani Spectator Stage (SS1) by the drivers in their World Rally Championship Rally 1 cars, starting from 10:00 a.m.
Reconnaissance, an essential part of rally motorsport races, involves the observation of the racetrack prior to the event.
The Safari Rally will take place amidst Africa’s untamed terrains, featuring breathtaking landscapes where weather conditions can change in a matter of minutes. With challenges such as mud, rocks, fesh-fesh sand, and demanding water crossings, the Safari Rally Kenya stands as the ultimate test of endurance for drivers.
The main event is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, March 28, and will run until March 31.
Originating in 1953 as the East African Coronation Safari to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the Safari Rally has evolved over the years. Renamed the East African Safari Rally in 1960 and later the Kenya Safari Rally in 1974, it gained a reputation as the toughest round of the WRC, with arduous conditions and constantly changing weather across more than 5000 competitive kilometers.
Adopting a special stage format in 1996, the rally featured over 1000km of timed tests until 2002. After a hiatus, it returned to the WRC calendar in 2021. Kenya’s Shekhar Mehta holds the record for the most Safari Rally wins, with five victories.
