Monda’s impeachment

After Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda was impeached by the Senate, the Members of the County Assembly are expected to react after the completion of the process.

Monda had been impeached by MCAs in Kisii, and the latest move by the senate confirms his exit from office.

A majority of the senators voted to substantiate four charges put against Monda by his county’s assembly representatives.

The charges were; gross violation of the constitution and any other law, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and crimes under national law.

39 senators voted for Monda’s removal from office on the first and second counts; three opposed, while one abstained.

On the third count, 35 senators upheld Monda’s removal, seven voted against it, and one abstained. On the last count, 32 senators agreed with the MCAs and voted for Monda’s removal, whereas 10 were against it and one abstained.

Monda becomes the first deputy governor to lose his position since the introduction of devolution and county governance by the 2010 Constitution.

Expectations after fuel price reduction

After the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a reduction in fuel prices, Kenyans are expecting that the cost of basic commodities will come down.

The high cost of living has been one of the biggest issues Kenyans have been struggling with, putting the Kenya Kwanza government under pressure.

With the latest EPRA review, which saw a significant reduction in different types of fuels, the effect on the market is what the public awaits even more.

Eyes on KMPDU, doctors’ strike

After the planned strike by doctors was halted by the court, the eyes will now be on the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union‘s (KMPDU) next move.

KMPDU had announced an industrial action by doctors that was expected to start on Thursday, March 14, but an injunction by the Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended the plan.

Justice Byram Ongaya ordered Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore to convene a meeting with the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), the Kenya Union of Nutritionists and Dietitians, Labour CS, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and KMPDU to avert the strike.

With the stalemate going on, the citizens are afraid that there might be disruptions in providing medical services in major public hospitals.

KMPDU is expected to press on as they believe the government is not willing to listen and address concerns raised by health workers. Their next move is what the public keenly watches.
