Harambee Stars, Zambia set for Four-Nations tournament

The tournament, taking place during the FIFA international window, will include COSAFA nations Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) expressed confidence that having such joint tournaments will foster camaraderie among the participating nations, offer high-level competition for players, and enhance youth football programs across Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
“We believe hosting these joint tournaments will build camaraderie among our nations, provide high-level competition for our players, and elevate youth football programs across Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe,” the Football Kenya Federation confirmed in a statement.
For Harambee Stars, this tournament serves as crucial preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Head coach Engin Firat views the event in Malawi’s Lilongwe city as an opportunity to assess squad chemistry and refine team dynamics.
The last competitive outing for the national team was a World Cup qualifier against Seychelles, where they secured a convincing 5-0 victory in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Harambee Stars capability
Firat prioritizes providing Harambee Stars with top-level competition to build a competitive squad capable of contending for honours in the future.
In parallel, the junior side is set to participate in a concurrent campaign. The U20 tournament aims to develop and expose elite youth talent across the participating countries, aligning with preparations for the upcoming 2024 AFCON Under-20 qualifiers later this year, according to the FKF.
“A concurrent youth tournament for our U20 national teams will take place during the same period. By bringing together the best young players from across our countries, this U20 tournament will aid in developing and exposing elite youth talent while preparing teams for the upcoming 2024 AFCON Under-20 qualifiers later this year,” FKF added.
